The family of Malava MP Moses Malulu Injendi is grappling with a double tragedy following his death on February 18, 2025, just a day after his elder brother, Samuel Injendi, passed away on February 16.
Residents of Malava Sub-County, Kakamega, are preparing to bid farewell to their MP, who died at the age of 57 while undergoing treatment.
Samuel Injendi will be laid to rest this coming Saturday, February 24, 2025, while the late MP will be buried on March 4, 2025, pending government approval.

Abasonje Clan chairman, 96-year-old John Jaluo, announced the funeral details, stating that Samuel Injendi will be buried first, as he passed away before his younger brother.
“Each of them will have their own burial ceremony. Since the elder son died first, we shall bury him first,” Mr. Jaluo said, urging the residents to honor the burial order.
Addressing the media at MP Injendi’s Lugusi home, funeral planning committee issued a stern warning to politicians against causing chaos during the burial of their late MP, Moses Malulu Injendi. The community insists that the funeral should be a peaceful and respectful event, free from the violent incidents that have marred other funerals in the past.
“We do not want to witness what has happened elsewhere, where politicians turn funerals into battlegrounds.
This is a time to mourn and honor our leader, not to engage in unnecessary conflicts,” said Manda-Shibanga Ward Representative David Kivishi.
The leaders have called on security agencies to ensure order and prevent any political confrontations that may disrupt the ceremony.
Residents have also urged mourners to conduct themselves with decorum and avoid being used by politicians to create tension.
Malulu, who was serving his third term as the Member of Parliament for Malava, was a highly respected leader known for championing development and education in the area.
He was first elected in 2013 under the Maendeleo Democratic Party (MDP) before contesting on a Jubilee Party ticket in 2017, and later with the Amani National Congress (ANC) party in 2022.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula praised Mr. Malulu’s leadership, highlighting his significant contributions to the nation and the Malava constituency.
“As we come to terms with this great loss, let us remember Mr. Injendi for his remarkable service and the positive impact he had on our nation,” Wetang’ula said.
In the wake of Malulu’s passing, the community has also called on President William Ruto to fast-track ongoing development projects in the region, including the Samitsi-Kimang’eti road and the construction of the Malava Medical Training College, both of which were among the late MP’s top priorities.
Local leaders and residents of Malava have expressed their sadness at the loss of their MP, while also pledging to ensure a peaceful burial. “We do not want any violence. Let us come together, in harmony, to give our MP the dignified farewell he deserves,” said Kevin Mahelo, the representative for Butali-Chegulo ward.
With plans now in place for a respectful and orderly burial, the residents of Malava and the surrounding areas are united in their resolve to honor Moses Malulu Injendi’s legacy of peace and development.
They are also hopeful for a peaceful and transparent by-election to elect a new MP who will continue the work started by their late leader.
